A vessel was found near the Kinburn Spit, which has no analogues in the world

An antique crater-shaped vessel, raised by archaeologists from the bottom of the Black Sea near the Kinburn Spit, was presented at the Nikolaev Regional Museum of Local Lore. And although the name of this vessel, what it was intended for, archaeologists do not know for sure – there is nothing to compare with, there are no analogues, but they definitely know that it dates back to the end of the 5th – beginning of the 4th century BC. Archaeologists – senior lecturer of the Department of Archeology of Ancient and Medieval History of the National University named after V. Sukhomlinsky Alexander Smirnov told a press conference about this at a press conference held today, August 15, on the Day of the Archaeologist and Vyacheslav Gerasimov, Junior Researcher of the Department of Archeology of the Crimea and the North-Western Black Sea Region of the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Even the head of the Nikolaev Regional State Administration Alexei Savchenko, who was present at the press conference, was impressed. As Alexander Smirnov said, this vessel was found near the wreck of a crashed ship, which was sailing to Olbia with a cargo of oil and wine from Chios. But the vessel was not, as they say, a container for transporting liquids. It is not known exactly what it served for, but, as Alexander Smirnov suggests, it could have a ritual significance – perhaps wine and water were bred in it before offering guests. But the skeleton of a Greek ship, buried, is of great interest and value. under a layer of sand, which, as archaeologists hope, made it possible for it to survive for these millennia. That is why now they will begin to prepare documents for UNESCO to include the found artifacts in the World Heritage List. But this procedure is lengthy, and the object must be saved for posterity. Therefore, archaeologists asked Alexei Savchenko for assistance in organizing the protection of the object at the bottom of the sea, both from black archaeologists and from ordinary divers for rapa, who can simply break wooden structures. And Alexey Savchenko promised to contact the State Border Service and the NPP “Biloberezhzhya Svyatoslav”. In addition, archaeologists are hatching plans to raise this ancient ship from the seabed and install it in the courtyard of the Nikolaev Museum of Local Lore. But for this, it is necessary to find funds for the conservation of parts of the ship, and the reagents, as noted by Vyacheslav Gerasimov, are very expensive. It remains to add that the archaeologists who found a unique object for us were presented with the Gratitude of the head of the Nikolaev Regional State Administration.
